Radio frequency technologies have been around for a long time, but only recently have they been harnessed for different needs such as solid state cooking (SSC).
SSC offers many benefits. For example, the power can be adjusted based on the kind of food being cooked. The integrity of the food is also not affected. Unlike the microwave, SSC provides a better service preparing healthier food, avoiding moisture and weight loss and resulting in a better taste. SSC is also a greener alternative saving 60 % of energy over conventional ovens.
This concept is fast and easy to use with no preparation or cooking skills required and always provides chef quality meals. SSC also gives you a versatile solution allowing you to defrost, warm, cook or bake your food. The ovens are suitable for any food product.
How it works
Different foods have different fingerprints and may require different frequencies for optimum cooking. In a SSC oven, frequency synthesizers allow frequencies to be changed rapidly, allowing the power to be spread in the most optimal way to heat particular types of food.
Advances in technology
RF energy is expected to bypass magnetron technology due to its robustness and high efficiency. The microwave is a key example. Microwave ovens use a magnetron and control the power by switching the magnetron on and off over periods of several seconds. So, a 900 W oven when operating at 90 W might produce 900 W for five seconds and then switch off for forty-five seconds. Depending on the type of food being heated, this may cause repeated heating and cooling of the surface of the food which could affect the quality.
Solid state systems can also perform this kind of power control; however the period of the modulation can be milliseconds or microseconds making the heat delivery much more linear. And because the food is sensed and measured as part of the cavity, it makes it possible to gauge:
- How much power is reflected, allowing cooking time to be adjusted
- How much power is staying in the cavity
- What power in not contributing to heating the food
Cook your food to perfection
Our solid-state products can change the kitchen landscape. RF ovens perform more efficiently than conventional and microwave-based ovens. By providing increased control and power, food can be cooked more precisely, keeping taste, texture and vitamins.
How it works?
RF ovens really are the next generation of cooking. RF cooking lets you prepare your meal at the precise temperature without disturbing the integrity of the food. Our RF energy cooking solution does all the hard work for you.
The oven has sensors that can determine the food’s specific footprint. Once recognized, the oven will cook the food at the appropriate temperature. Through continuous sensing, the cooking progress can be monitored and accurately controlled.
Prepare your entire meal
You can also cook multiple foodstuffs simultaneously. For example, if you wanted a roast dinner with all the trimmings you can put it all into the oven and let it do the cooking. The system can automatically adjust the RF profile, moving the hotspots to certain areas of oven to cook the whole meal to perfection.
Based on solid state technology, RF ovens have an exceptionally long lifetime, easily outlasting the current kitchen devices, both for maintenance and performance.
Our RF energy solution also give manufacturers significant design freedom compared to microwave ovens, allowing smaller, slimmer designs or even different shapes.
- Cooks homogeneously
- Less moisture lost than microwave or conventional ovens
- Accurate, controlled flexible cooking
- Able to cook different food items at same time
- Ability to monitor cooking process
- Supports different form factor designs
Unparalleled efficiency with RF cooking
In a restaurant or fast food establishment, ovens often run for more than 10 hours a day. If the outlets are open 24/7 then these ovens will be in operation even longer.
Currently most establishments use conventional or microwave ovens, but these must be maintained on a regular basis. Magnetrons specifically need to be repaired or replaced annually. They also require constant algorithm adjustment to maintain consistent cooking as their power output degrades over time.
RF ovens enable large quantities of food to be cooked accurately and efficiently in a short time. These ovens can cook over 30 % faster than today’s conventional oven. This accelerated cooking enables restaurants to reduce waiting lines and serve more customers.
The RF oven contains a sensor-based cavity which can detect the footprint of the food. This allows the oven to focus its energy on the food and cook at the appropriate heat setting. The oven can also move the hotspots and adjust the power to cook an entire meal in one go. This helps speed up the cooking process while still ensuring that every meal is cooked to perfection.
RF transistors have a long lifetime of up to 20 years, so even regular maintenance is no longer necessary. The oven can also run diagnostics on itself. If a problem is detected, the oven can alert the user and in our increasingly connected world potentially even schedule a maintenance visit.
- Accurate, flexible and controlled cooking
- Long lifetime
- Reduced maintenance costs
- Able to cook multiple foodstuffs simultaneously
- Cooks faster and at a higher quality than current technologies
